Steve Wynn Says Business Is 'Frightened' of Obama - Yahoo! Finance

Steve Wynn says the Obama administration's policies have directly resulted in American business leaders sitting on their bankrolls rather than investing in projects that would create jobs. Wynn, the founder and CEO of Wynn Resorts (WYNN), told Nevada television host Jon Ralston yesterday that he passed on a $2 billion project that could have created as many as 35,000 jobs because he's "afraid of the President," adding that every business guy Wynn knows is "frightened of Barack Obama and the way he thinks."

Breakout asked Hugh Johnson, chairman and CIO of Hugh Johnson Advisors and a job creator in his own right, if Wynn is onto something or just grinding an ax.

Wynn Is "Right on the Mark"

In the attached video Johnson says Wynn is dead right. The rub for Johnson is the proposed tax hike for those making over $250,000 a year. It's not a matter of fair share but of bad business. Many of those people are owners and operators of small businesses. Tax small business people at a higher rate and they'll have less money to hire.

As the owner of a small business himself, Johnson says he would see his taxes rise as a result of the proposed hikes. "I would be affected by an increase in taxes, and that's obviously going to do something to my appetite to hire some new people; it's going to reduce it."

Johnson rejects the notion that the wealthy are opposed to higher taxes because of outsized greed and a lack of compassion. Obama's "creeping policy" against small business in favor of those in need paradoxically limits the beneficiaries' chances of getting a job. Taking money out of the hands of employers is "not how you put the U.S. economy on the road to recovery," as Johnson sees it.

Rising Uncertainty on the Election

Even with the sense that the deck is increasingly stacked against him and his fellow business owners, Johnson doesn't think policy is the main culprit behind the overall economy recovering without as many jobs as would be expected. A far bigger concern is a lack of certainty on what the tax rates will ultimately be. It's impossible to know whether or not hiring makes economic sense when you don't know what your rates are going to be. Romney's comeback in the polls doesn't help ? at least for now.

"I want to see who's going to win this election, and I really want to see what the tax and spending policies are going to be for the next four years," says Johnson. "I don't know that right now, so I'm putting things on hold now and waiting for the outcome of this election."

Even if Romney wins the White House come February, there's no guarantee his policies will actually be put in place. But that's a problem for another day. For now guys like Steve Wynn and Hugh Johnson would be happy just to feel like they aren't the scapegoats for a recovery that continues to feel like a recession.

WellnessFX Practitioner Ben Greenfield on Training and Winning ...

Depending on your health hurdles, your triumphs and any lofty fitness goals you may have, your health guru may be your family physician, your acupuncturist or your personal trainer. At WellnessFX, we offer a network of practitioners that range from medical doctors to dieticians and nutritionists, all with a variety of backgrounds and specialties.

One of our wellness gurus is Ben Greenfield, a WFX practitioner, sports nutritionist and personal trainer. Ben helps his clients with weight control, sports performance, holistic medicine and lifestyle management. A triathlete himself for the last nine years, Ben demonstrates a devotion to health, quantified living and the victory that comes with working toward your goals.

Using a tailored training and nutrition program, much like the ones he recommends for his clients, Ben recently finished first at the Leadman 125 Triathlon in Bend, Oregon. The gorgeous Pacific Northwest course starts with a 2.5km swim in chilly Citrus Lake at about 5,000 feet, then transitions into a hilly 106km bike course, and ends with a 16.5km run along the banks of the Deschutes River.

Ben?s unique style of training results in an eight to 10 hour training week, in contrast to most tri-trainers who push training to an average 15 to 25 hours per week. ?I only train for 60 minutes each day, with one long workout on the weekends,? he explains. ?Rather than training excessively, I put more focus into the quality and intensity of my training, recovery, sleep and diet.

?As a coach, I have the challenge of looking at my client?s healthy history, exercise history, goals and limitations, and custom designing a training and nutrition plan accordingly,? Ben describes. While training and nutrition needs vary among Ben?s clients, the overlying philosophy stays the same: ?Quality training over quantity of training, the elimination of ?junk miles? and a focus on the variables that many athletes tend to put on the backburner.? These, according to Ben, include holistic, nutrient-dense fueling, smart recovery, stress control and deep sleep.

?Many of the athletes I coach (and myself) also implement alternative methods such as cold thermogenesis, electro stimulation and customized nutrition supplement plans. All of which make a big difference.?

Check out Ben?s full race report here and his approach to a winning race-day nutrition protocol.

Ben Greenfield, MS, CSCS, C-ISSN, is a coach, author and speaker with more than nine years? experience in coaching professional, collegiate, and recreational athletes in all sports and fitness levels. Heat arrive in China for preseason games

MIAMI (AP) ? LeBron James is visiting China for the ninth time, which makes him one of the resident Miami Heat experts about the world's most populous nation.

Specifically, the food choices there.

"If anyone comes back with any body fat from this trip, then I don't know what they were doing on their free time," said James, the NBA's MVP.

So maybe it's fortunate that the coming week won't exactly include a ton of free time for the Heat, who arrived in Beijing on Monday night for a weeklong trip. The reigning league champions play the Los Angeles Clippers twice during the NBA China Games, starting in Beijing on Thursday and then again Sunday in Shanghai.

"Should be fun," James said. "It's a very long trip to be bonding together, but we're going to use it and not waste an opportunity."

The itinerary is hectic, with VIP receptions, a trip to the Great Wall of China and other excursions planned. The Heat are trying to ensure that players and personnel have time to experience some elements of Chinese culture on their own.

"You only have these type of opportunities so often," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "You want to take advantage of it. This is the preseason. We understand the big picture. It's a great program that the NBA runs when you have an opportunity to play overseas. Our last trip was tremendous when we went to Europe. Great team-building, and you get to see another part of the world and do it together."

The Heat played games in France and England during the 2008 preseason against the Nets, who then called New Jersey home.

Miami left on Saturday for Atlanta, played the Hawks there in the preseason opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon, then boarded a charter for the flight to Beijing, one that lasted a little more than 14 hours. The Heat landed around 9:30 p.m. local time.

Heat guard Mario Chalmers remembered to turn his phone's international plans on before leaving the U.S. Apparently, he forgot to account for the time difference halfway around the world ? tweeting that he slept for about 11 hours on the plane, meaning he was rested and refreshed around what would have figured to be bedtime in China.

"I ain't gettin no sleep tonight," Chalmers wrote.

If he was groggy Tuesday morning (still Monday night in the U.S.), when the Heat held their first practice in China, it didn't show. Photos posted to social media sites by the team showed Chalmers was just fine when he left the team hotel for the buses. Later Tuesday, the Heat were planning to take about six hours to visit the Great Wall.

"We're looking forward to the opportunity," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "I think as an organization, as players individually, once we get over there it will be a great opportunity to continue to grow our game."

Wade did not play in Atlanta on Sunday as he continues recovering from offseason knee surgery. He is hopeful of playing at least once in China, and went for a late-night workout after the plane landed Monday night. He remembers what those Nets-Heat games were like in Europe four years ago, and said the element of facing the same team twice in the span of a few days helps raise the competitive bar a bit, even in an exhibition.

"The second one was a little bit more of a grind-out game, where you really wanted to win," Wade said. "The first game will be fun and will give the fans a show. The second one's going to be a little more intense. Guys will want to get at it and try to win. No doubt, you need some competitive situations. You need to be pushed, you need to feel fatigued, all those things."

It would seem like he's ready for his preseason debut. Another photo released by the Heat on Tuesday morning showed Wade dunking in practice ? a sign that his knee is just fine.

The NBA allows teams that are traveling internationally during the preseason to open camp a few days earlier than everyone else, which Spoelstra said was helpful.

Sure, it's a logistical challenge, but Spoelstra isn't worried.

"There's a lot of good things about trips like this with the NBA, and that's why we're looking forward to it," Spoelstra said. "If we didn't have this training camp I'd be thinking that this is a tough thing, a lot of distractions and so forth. But we've had a full training camp. Now we get to go away, together, and spend an inordinate amount of time around each other in a place that's a little bit out of our comfort zone. That usually is good for team-building."

Those meals might create a team memory or two as well.

Chinese culinary options can seem unique ? even though some on the trip are quick to point out there are American fast-food restaurants all over Beijing. But for those with more adventurous palates, some unusual choices can be had.

"I'm sure we're going to eat some funky meals where we can all say, 'Oh, that was nasty,'" said Heat forward Shane Battier, who has endorsed the Chinese shoe brand Peak since 2006. "Those experiences are good. And for guys who have never been to China before, it'll be fun to see their reaction. And those things, I think, can build a team."

Wonderful 'Herb & Dorothy' at Stranger Than Fiction 9 October ...

Herb and Dorothy Vigel's love of art, says Richard Tuttle, "goes from the eye to the soul without going through the brain."

When Herb Vogel died in July, many observers lamented the loss to the art world. In that world, he is legendary, a former postal clerk who, with his librarian wife Dorothy collected art for years, packing it into their tiny Upper East Side apartment. Their tastes were eclectic, their desire to support artists enormous and generous. And they worked tirelessly over decades to do so.
??
The collection and the couple are showcased in Herb & Dorothy, screening on 9 October at Stranger Than Fiction, followed by a Q&A with both the film?s director, Megumi Sasaki, and Dorothy Vogel. The film focuses on how Dorothy and her husband worked together, how they interacted with artists, and how they lived, immersed in so much art. Richard Tuttle describes their work?and their love for it?rather poetically: ?Most of us go through the world never seeing anything,? he says, ?Then you meet someone like Herb and Dorothy, who have eyes that see something. It goes from the eye to the soul without going through the brain.? Herb & Dorothy helps to make that process visible to the rest of us.

Rothko mural defaced at London's Tate Modern

(AP) ? A vandal scrawled graffiti on a mural by modern American master Mark Rothko at London's Tate Modern on Sunday.

The mural, one of Rothko's Seagram series, was defaced when a visitor to the Tate applied "a small area of black paint with a brush to the painting," the gallery said.

A photograph posted on Twitter by a gallery visitor showed words, including the name Vladimir, scrawled in the corner of the painting. The gallery, which attracts 5 million visitors a year, was briefly closed Sunday after the incident.

Tate Modern said police were investigating.

The graffiti on the painting also appears to read "a potential piece of yellowism." According to an online manifesto, Yellowism is an artistic movement run by two people named Vladimir Umanets and Marcin Lodyga.

This is not the first time an artwork at Tate Modern has been interfered with. In 2000, two Chinese performance artists attempted to urinate on Marcel Duchamp's urinal sculpture "Fountain."

Rothko, who died in 1970, is renowned for his large abstract paintings featuring bold blocks of color. The defaced painting was one of a series intended to decorate the Four Seasons restaurant in New York. Rothko changed his mind about the commission and gave the works to galleries, including the Tate.

Earlier this year, Rothko's "Orange, Red, Yellow" sold for almost $87 million at auction in New York.

Boomers - Is "American Idol" an example of institutionalized ageism?

Popular culture favors youth. Celebrity favors youth. Many of today's icons of the Boomer generation achieved fame before turning 25, certainly by 35.

But unlike older generations, where many youth icons faded from superstardom after age 45, Boomer icons persist today, filling stadiums (Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Gene Simmons, and Bonnie Rait) and winning starring roles in movies (Richard Gere, Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep, and Sigourney Weaver, to name a few).

The Boomer generation's cultural hegemony is maintaining and even expanding veteran celebrity status for those well past 45, including all the aforementioned artists who all turn 63 this year.

In Marketing to Leading-Edge Baby Boomers (Paramount Market Publishing, 2005), I raised another possibility for the future of fame, if but a wish: that this nation would be capable of recognizing and elevating artists who do not achieve first acclaim until after the age of 45.

I proposed this possibility as another hopeful indication that Boomer dominance over popular culture will not fade as some critics predict; rather, the generation would continue to influence paradigm shifts about aging and celebrity appeal with more contemporary revelations. Undiscovered artists might step onto the international stage for the first time but later in life. These talented individuals would rise above ageism, looks-ism and longstanding social barriers to attaining acclaim after reaching a certain age.

After watching the May 23, 2012 ascension and victory of young Phillip Phillips on American Idol?-- the 21-year-old pawnshop employee from Georgia with a scraggly vocal style -- I pushed away from the eleventh Fox Network talent competition wondering what's missing in the annual line-up of would-be musical superstars. The finale program that catapulted Mr. Phillips to superstardom did not demonstrate any bashfulness about paying homage to previously discovered post-55 talent, including Credence Clearwater Revival's John Fogerty, Neil Diamond, Steven Tyler and Aerosmith and veteran country star Reba McEntire.

So what's the issue? As typical, all of this year's finalists were comfortably south of age 30. American Idol has failed to find and showcase new talent over age 45. The vast Idol audience seems to love a narrative of the sensitive-pawnshop-clerk-who-has-only-played-guitar-for-several-years storyline. But what about another gripping plotline? How about the seasoned music veteran who has played for 30 or 40 years, never achieving celebrity, but then Idol discovers this fresh talent, catapulting the veteran musician from obscurity to renown?

In April 2009, an understated woman opened her mouth and sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical Les Mis?rables with nearly perfect pitch and clarity. The judges and television studio audience became flabbergasted, struggling to find congruency between what their eyes were witnessing and their ears were hearing.

Susan Boyle, then age 48, a church volunteer from lackluster Blackburn, Scotland, became an instant celebrity. YouTube videos of her unexpected performance on Britain's Got Talent, the UK version of American Idol, have received over 38 million views. According to Visible Measures, a company that computes viewings of Internet videos, her catalog of on-online clips was watched over 310 million times during 2009.

Following Talent, her shrink-wrapped CD, "I Dreamed a Dream," sold 701,000 copies in the United States during the first week; became the fastest-selling debut album in British history; and soared to the number one sales position in Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia. Her debut album became the second-biggest selling album of 2009 in the U.S., with 3.1 million copies sold.

Equally thought-provoking is the manner in which fans purchased Boyle's album. Ninety-four percent of the sales were CDs, not digital downloads, which is counter to the prevailing trend where only 77 percent of music sales today are CDs. That means immense profits for the music publishing industry--sales levels not easily realized through downloading.

Older artists can achieve extraordinary dreams if given a chance. Western society has traditionally erected nearly insurmountable barriers before those who sought fame for the first time after the age of 45. Susan Boyle shattered those barriers. Now "American Idol" needs to grasp the potentiality and profitability of later-life talent, not on faith but because of monetary evidence.

When the culture of fame finally admits older newcomers -- those who have not spent months or even four years preparing for greatness but rather have practiced their art and nurtured their dreams for decades, as did Susan Boyle -- we can finally witness and celebrate the complete realization of human potential, unimpeded by race, culture, sex, prior socioeconomic status -- and most assuredly, age.

Second Thoughts: Imagine that John Fogerty had spent a lifetime working for state government but playing small venues at night, never connecting with a national audience. Imagine if that mighty talent came to us late in life, rather than early when he was young. Imagine if an undiscovered Fogerty gained admission to the "Idol" competition. Would he be capable of winning? Would he deserve to win? I have not been a big "Idol" fan -- this being the first year I have watched more than a show or two. But watching the Phillips-Fogerty YouTube video helps me "get it." I know a 50+ lawyer who has all the talent of Fogerty but who you will never know, thanks to the social barriers controlling our current culture of fame.

Braves beat Mets, up their Medlen streak to 23

By CHARLES ODUM

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 5:12 p.m. ET Sept. 30, 2012

ATLANTA (AP) - Kris Medlen did his part to ensure Chipper Jones' last regular-season home game was a win.

Then again, all of the Atlanta Braves have been winning a lot with Medlen on the mound.

The Braves won for a major league record 23rd straight time in games started by Medlen, beating the New York Mets 6-2 on Sunday as a sellout crowd cheered Jones' every move.

Medlen (10-1) gave up one unearned run and three hits in six innings, adding to his momentum heading into the postseason. The Braves have already clinched an NL wild-card spot and are on track to host the one-game playoff, which Medlen would start.

"I think the best part about it is my name is in the history books, but it's a team thing," Medlen said. "It's a really cool feeling. Like I said, we're not done. I hope we keep going."

According to STATS LLC research going back to 1921, only two other teams won 22 straight starts by a pitcher: the New York Giants with Carl Hubbell (1936-37) and the Yankees with Whitey Ford (1950-53). Ford's streak was interrupted by military service.

With Washington's 10-4 loss to St. Louis, the Braves gained a game in the NL East and trail the first-place Nationals by three games. The Nationals have a magic number of one for clinching the division. The Braves close the regular season with three games at Pittsburgh.

The Mets (73-86) topped 2011's loss total and ensured their most losses since a 70-92 record in 2009.

Atlanta is 12-0 in Medlen's starts this season after he moved to the rotation on July 31. The team's streak of 23 straight wins in Medlen's starts began in 2010.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he was thinking of the postseason by limiting Medlen to six innings.

"If we were able to do that, get him the win, get the team the win and keep him right where we wanted in terms of pitches and innings, that was a good day," Gonzalez said.

The Mets' only run off Medlen was set up by first baseman Freddie Freeman's throwing error on Justin Turner's grounder in the third. The wild throw to Medlen, who was covering first base, allowed Ruben Tejada, who singled, to score from second.

David Ross hit a three-run homer in the second off Jenrry Mejia (1-2). Jones had a single and two walks and wouldn't agree to come out of the game early.

"I tried to pinch-hit for him, get a big ovation for him," Gonzalez said. "He said, `I want to finish this.' That's just the way he is."

Jones' parents were in Atlanta for the series.

"To be honest with you, I saw us winning this game early and I wanted to go give my mom and dad a hug after the game," Jones said. "If I had taken myself out of the game, I'd be in (the clubhouse) watching fantasy football."

The retiring 40-year-old slugger said he had "a lot of relief" the weekend was over.

"I'm glad it's over and we can go to Pittsburgh and finish out the year and get ready for the next one back here when all the fun is going to start," Jones said.

Jones' teammates stayed behind in the dugout as he ran onto the field to a standing ovation to start the game. The Braves joined the ovation, and even some New York players applauded him. Mets third base coach Tim Teufel walked over and shook Jones' hand, and finally the Braves joined Jones on the field.

"It's a well-deserved tribute," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "We all salute him in his career. He's a great, great player."

Jones was immediately tested as he made a dive to his left to make a stop on a grounder from Mets leadoff hitter Ruben Tejada. The All-Star third baseman made a one-hop throw to first base from his knees for the out. He made another diving stop on a sharply hit grounder by Scott Hairston to end the inning.

Braves chanted "Let's go, Chipper!" when he batted in the second, and booed Mejia for walking him.

Jones' first hit of his final regular-season home series came with his third-inning single, ending a 0-for-13 drought that included four walks. He tipped his helmet to the fans before his at-bats in the first and seventh innings. With fans standing in the seventh, Jones walked again.

Jones received another loud ovation when he took the field in the ninth. Fans chanted "Thank you, Chipper" as the inning started and then "Chipper! Chipper!" with two outs.

The Braves scored a run in the fifth on doubles by Michael Bourn and Jason Heyward. Andrelton Simmons doubled in Dan Uggla in the sixth off Collin McHugh and scored on Bourn's single.

Mejia gave up four runs on six hits in five innings.

"I thought he threw the ball good today," Collins said. "He made a real bad throw to Ross, right down the middle. But his two-seamer was the best one I've seen him have."

The Mets scored one run off Cory Gearrin in the ninth on a double by Ike Davis, a walk to Lucas Duda and a single by Andres Torres.

Closer Craig Kimbrel recorded the final out on a grounder by Fred Lewis for his 42nd save.

Bourn was a late addition to Atlanta's lineup after missing six games with a sprained left thumb.

Medlen lined a foul ball into the Mets' dugout in the fourth, hitting catcher Josh Thole. Thole's right ear was red and swollen but he said he passed a concussion test.

"I just saw the doctor and there's no issue, other than this big ear I have," Thole said.

"It got me more on the cartilage of my ear, I think. That's what saved me. It definitely could have been worse."

NOTES: The sellout crowd of 50,635 raised the Braves' attendance for the season at 2,420,171, a slight increase from their 2011 total. ... Following Collins' lead, the Mets had a theme dress day, with all the players and coaches wearing football jerseys - NFL or college - to the park. The team had a similar hockey jersey day earlier in the season. ... Mets rookie RHP Jeurys Familia will make his first career start Monday against Florida's Josh Johnson. Familia has an 8.64 ERA in seven games in relief. R.A. Dickey is scheduled to start on Tuesday. ... LHP Paul Maholm will face Pirates LHP Jeff Locke on Monday night in Pittsburgh.

States Moving Ahead On Defining 'Essential' Health Insurance ...

California and Washington state will require coverage of acupuncture. Arkansas wants prevention counseling for women at high risk of breast cancer but not coverage of expensive infertility treatment.

Oregon opted against covering bariatric surgery for obesity but insurers will have to cover cochlear implants for hearing.??

These are some of the decisions states have made as they determine what?minimum insurance benefits millions of their residents will be entitled to in 2014 under the federal health law.

The decisions ? which affect people who will buy individual and small group policies --?are being closely watched because?they?ll determine how comprehensive the plans are and affect how much they cost.?

Insurers can offer richer benefit plans to those willing to pay higher prices.?

With a Monday target for submitting their lists of "essential health benefits" to the federal government, 16 states and the District of Columbia?have made their choices and 16 more states are expected to do so in the next few weeks, according to consulting firm Avalere Health.

The health law lists 10 broad categories of essential benefits, including preventive care, emergency services, maternity care, hospital and doctors? services, and prescription drugs.? States have latitude within those categories, and so far nearly all have selected as a benchmark for minimum coverage one of the three most?popular small group health plans available to residents now. Because these plans vary and states can tinker with specific benefits to comply with federal requirements, the minimum benefits available to consumers in California will be different from those for people in New York, for example.

Essential benefit requirements apply to individual and small group plans sold within and outside the new online, state-based exchanges scheduled to launch in 2014. The requirements also apply to benefits provided to the population that will be newly eligible for Medicaid coverage. These requirements do not apply to self-insured health plans, which is how most large companies cover their employees.

By selecting among the most popular small group plans already being sold, states are trying to minimize disruption to the insurance marketplace. This strategy also allows states to maintain health benefits they have been requiring insurers to offer.

That?s good news for disease advocacy groups which had feared losing coverage for such services as mammograms and autism treatment ? coverage they have previously persuaded states to adopt. Some advocates remain disappointed, however, that there won?t be a uniform, nationwide set of essential benefits.

"We?re pleased to see states choosing benchmark plans that will preserve cancer coverage guarantees that we have fought hard to enact at the state level," said Stephen Finan, senior director of policy of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. "But we remain committed to urging a national standard that ensures a consistent level of quality coverage for people with cancer in any state."

Sonya Schwartz, program director at the nonpartisan think tank National Academy for State Health Policy, lamented a "missed opportunity." She said states could have been more innovative rather than locking in minimum benefits based on what was sold to most customers in 2012.? But she noted states were hesitant to make major changes and were careful not to go beyond?the?10 categories of minimum benefits called for in the law or else consumers would be on the hook for those costs.??

Although many advocates say the Obama administration should have been more prescriptive, giving states more leeway helped to quell concerns the health law would force people into federally-dictated coverage and undo decades of state oversight of the industry.

States could select a benchmark benefit package based on what was covered by:

*?One of the three largest small-group plans in the state

* One of the three largest health plans for state employees

* One of the three largest national health insurance options for federal employees

* The largest health maintenance organization operating in the state?s commercial insurance market.

If a state does not choose, the benchmark will be the largest small group plan in the state. Some states where officials opposed the health law, such as Virginia, have moved ahead on essential benefits.

Maryland and Utah are the only states that have chosen one of their state employee health plans as a benchmark.

Schwartz said while benefits in 2014 will look largely similar to those today, she noted the law ensures coverage for mental health, prescription drugs and maternity services which are not guaranteed in all individual and small group policies today.?

States are still waiting for more guidance from the administration on how to define habilitative services -- one of the benefits covered?in the law -- and whether the federal government will require plans to offer more than one prescription drug in each class of drugs, said Caroline Pearson, a director at Avalere Health. Habilitative services differ from rehabilitation in that the patient is learning a new skill, such as walking for the first time, rather than having a former function restored.

This story was updated at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 to update the number of states?that have already made their essential health benefit choices.

How To Get 100 New Subscribers, Or More, To Your Membership ...

Whether you have an existing membership site up and running or you have an idea for one and are in the process of starting it up... you'll have one burning question on your mind...

How To Get New Members!

The basic truth is that no matter how many members you have today, or will have tomorrow, the amount of work you have to do to get/keep your site fresh and compelling is exactly the same... so you may as well keep adding more paying members to make it all worthwhile, right?

So let's cover three simple steps that attract more members...

STEP 1: Create a small paid for report.

Write a simple 12-15 page report on a sub-topic of your sites main topic. Listen: This is not a "Freebie" to give away for anyone who signs up, no, no! This is a valuable product that customers will be willing to pay c: $9.00 for.

Now sell this report from your membership site's domain name but not from the membership page. Create another page that is dedicated to selling your new product and ADD it to your domain.

For example:

Main membership domain: www.abc123.com

New product sales page: www.abc123.com/yournewreport.html

One reason you stick with the main domain name is simply to save time and costs. You don't need to register a new domain nor do all things needed to set it up... But there is far more important reason why you do it this way...

You expose them to your main membership domain name and site!

Now you setup your traffic driving sales strategy to point at the page selling the report. But people are curious beasts and most will see the sub-domain name and strip it off and go look at the main domain as well. Two sales opportunities for the one strategy... cool huh?

STEP 2: Give the report customer a 'Test Drive' of your membership site

Setup your report fulfillment page to (where they download it from or your "Thank you for ordering" page) to also have a TRIAL SUBSCRIPTION option. This option should be at the top of the page and make sure you 'sell' it as an "Unadvertised bonus". Tell them they that as a customer of your new product they are entitled to use the membership site for 'FREE' for two weeks.

A reasonable percentage of report buyers will automatically enrol simply because your site relates to the report they paid for and you have provided a special price for just them. The psychology here is that most will feel they have paid for the free trial by purchasing the report and will want to make sure they claim what they paid for.

You can add a deadline if you want, such as: "For today only" but if you do make sure you stick to it. Lie and you'll blow your hard-earned credibility straight out of the window.

Now simply provide a small list of reasons (benefits) of being a subscriber to your membership site and a link to the main site itself.

So, the process follows this path...

1. A PROSPECT arrives at your report's sales page. 2. They read and like the sales message for your $9.00 report. 3. They place an order and become a CUSTOMER. 4. You skilfully move them to the download page containing your 'Unadvertsed bonus' offer. 5. The customer now sees they can also get a two-week trial for FREE or maybe $1.

With me so far?

Great... here's the killer step...

STEP 3: Present a Bonus which requires activation

Now, to make sure the customer makes the right decision which is to sign up to your trial membership offer create an additional HIGHLY DESIRABLE bonus that the customer only gets if they activate the trial membership right now! Here's some ideas for this killer bonus:

1. Free coaching from your inner-circle... can be delivered by webinar so you don't have to do it in person. 2. Ready-made templates to make their life easier when working in the topic matter. 3. Another topic related resource you are an affiliate for or a JV offer. 4. A software tool that automates a process in the topic matter. 5. A short-cut "How to" guide. 6. A good PLR product. 7. A Good public domain product (make sure it IS copywrite free first though).

Look: It doesn't matter what this "activation bonus" is as long as you have something of perceived value to the customer that is about the topic matter. You just make it SO GOOD the customer just has to feel "Hey, this is so good I just can't miss out".

So the bottom line to you is this:

1. You create a qualified CUSTOMER list for free as the small report fee covers your costs! 2. You get a percentage of IMMEDIATE sign ups! 3. You bring in AUTOMATED subscribers through follow-up mailings to your list!

Just make sure you add the autoresponder series behind the report order page and the membership trial subscriber page and you're good to go!

Once you have this system in place simply keep driving traffic to your report's sales page and you'll keep a trickle of new members coming in every month!
